Everyone’s wine journey starts somewhere.
Atlas Vinifera started a long time ago, and involves a 15 year friendship, and a shared love of food, wine and travel. It wasn’t until recently, however, that Rabiya’s culinary experiments and Abby’s experience as a wine buyer inspired them to combine their talents and create Atlas Vinifera in 2016.
We wanted to create a store that truly encompassed the concept of regionality, because for us, a wine is more than just grapes in a bottle – it is the story of a place, its people, its traditions, and the food shared around the table.
It is an expression of the soil in which the vinifera grows. The sunshine, rain and wind upon on its back, the hours toiled away in a vineyard, and the hands of the winemaker who crafted its final form.
It is found on the sun-drenched shores of Sicily, in the red earth of Coonawarra, among the snow-covered Italian Alps, and on the treacherous slopes of Germany’s Rhine. It is all part of the magic that makes a bottle of wine.
Whether your journey has been lifelong, or is still beginning; whether it started in your friend’s backyard, or in a café in Paris – the love of wine is a journey filled with excitement, adventure, and pleasure – and far too often, uncertainty and disappointment.
That’s where we come in. We want to take the mystery out of choosing a wine, and instead make it a pleasure to explore and learn about some of these spectacular regions and the magnificent, diverse wines that they produce. To give every wine lover the confidence to try something new or a little bit different, for every taste and on every budget.
