Precipice Chardonnay, Yarra Valley

The verdant hills of the Yarra Valley are the home of some incredible Chardonnay, but 95 points every year is a hell of an achievement. Marty Singh’s Precipice has done just that. Produced from the famed Willow Lake vineyard, this is a tensile, nervy wine with great freshness and energy. Struck match, lemongrass, grapefruit and almond all weave a colourful pattern, with the taut acid line perfectly balancing fruit and oak richness. A delight to drink.

Williams Crossing Chardonnay, Macedon Ranges

An unfaltering attention to detail has seen Curly Flat develop a cult following in Australia and internationally, and in 2015 Matt Harrop, of Shadowfax fame, joined as chief winemaker. Fresh citrus and white peach frame a texturally rich palate that Curly Flat is known for. Laced with oak spice, hazelnut, and vanilla, the juicy acid helps this wine walk a tightrope without slipping once. A gorgeous wine that is truly a hallmark of its estate.

Barratt Chardonnay, Adelaide Hills

Piccadilly Valley, in the Adelaide Hills, produces pristine fruit that has long been sought after by ambitious winemakers. With everyone from Jeffrey Grosset to Shaw and Smith vying for the land and fruit, parcels are hard to come by. Barratt Estate is a small, family owned operation that produces small quantities of seriously good wines. A decadently smoky nose leads to a peaches and cream palate, offset by grapefruit like acidity, and resulting in a wine with perfect poise and balance.
